Giacometti’s Hat
On View at the Attleboro Arts Museum until Jan 29 2022
2021
31” x 11”x 16”
When I was young, my Aunt Fran told me stories about the lives of Alberto and Diego Giacometti. They had a symbiotic relationship, she said. Giacometti would not be able to create without Diego telling him how to support his sculpture and when to stop carving. In my imagined version of the events of their lives, Diego gave this hat to Alberto. It was full of ideas, riches and support. It was while wearing this hat that the power of this artistic duo was complete and full of drive, creativity and ambition.
